W国家公园位于西非，围绕尼日尔河的一个弯曲部分而形成，跨越尼日尔、贝宁和布基纳法索三国，公园的管理由三国政府共同负责。公园总面积约10,000平方公里，其中贝宁境内的部分超过8,000平方公里，直到2020年，贝宁部分才由非洲公园（African Parks）全面管理。W国家公园地处湿地与岩丘交错的区域，是西非野生动物的重要栖息地。这里栖息着大象、非洲狮、猎豹、非洲豹、河马等大型哺乳动物，同时也是西北非猎豹的栖息地之一。公园内还栖息着超过350种鸟类，是鸟类观察爱好者的天堂。丰富的动植物资源和广袤的自然环境，使W国家公园成为西非最具生态价值的保护区之一。

The animals are protected and free. You may not be guaranteed to see lions but you can admire their habitat and other animals knowing that they are not in cages.

It was quite fantastic between November and February. I wouldn't go much later than that. It's a must to stay on the island...the hosts are fantastic and it's a very comfortable rustic experience. Not to mention the roar of the lions as they walk past.
